Swiss Slaughter: Basel FC's fairy tale ground to dust in Germany

WHAT A MATCH!!!!! I cannot believe the slaughter that just took place in Germany. Basel FC, which kicked Manchester United out of the Champion League, was just executed in a way most terrible. After winning the 1st leg of the Champion's League knock out, 1-0 over Bayern Munich, they were guillotined, after Bayern handed them a 7-0 thrashing to snuff out Basel fairly tale, the meetings between the 2 ending at an almost shameful 7-1 on aggregate. I don't think I'd have been quite as surprised if this wasn't the team that defeated the great United.

Here's how the match went.

The match was intense from the very beginning. In minute 1, Bayern takes a shot which is saved by Basel's keeper.

The pressing would continue when in the 3rd minute, when Bayern would be awarded a corner. However, this shot, taken by Robben doesn't bother Sommer, the Basel keeper.

By the 5th minute, a wonderful play occurs between Muller and Robben of Bayern, but Sommer is quick to catch it. Again in the 5th minute, Robben would break away to take a shot, however, it goes just wide.

Minute 10: GGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL!! Flag stays down against Robben. Where was the Basel defense!!!!!??? Bayern 1-0 up.

Bayern wouldn't be stopped. In the 11th minute there opens up an excellent chance to Bayern. The Basel keeper denies Gomez TWICE. Excellent keeping!

Between the 33rd and 36 minutes, Basel would receive 2 corners. However both are saved by Neuer, the Bayern Keeper.

In the 39th minute, Basel would have its 1st real break away. Alex Frei however cannot keep the ball down.

Minute 41: GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!! Muller!!!! Robben does well to find Muller, who side foots the ball into the net. Bayern 2-0 up

Minute 43: GGGGGGGOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! Mario Gomez taps in a shot off a corner. Bayern 3-0 up

2 minutes of added time. Half time.

Basel are looking to reply with a corner at minute 46. However, nothing.

Minute 49: GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL!!!!! Gomez again!! Franck Ribery finds Gomez who gets a great touch on the ball into the back of Sommer's net. Bayern 4-0 up

Minute 60: GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!! GOMEZ does it again!!!! HAT TRICK!!!!! Assisted again by Ribery. Bayern 5-0 up

By minute 62, Basel were searching! GOAL? No. Alex Frei gets a shot in, but it is disallowed as a whistle went earlier for handball. It was wrongly called.

Basel, searching, sees Strella take a shot at goal. It however doesn't bother Neuer.

Minute 66: GGGGGGGOOOOOAAAALLLLLL!!!! GOMEZ!!! He does it again for his 4th goal of the evening, Ribery with the assist again. Bayern 6-0 up

In minute 76, Basel would have to try a last ditch attempt. Stoker sets up a nice shot for Alex Frei, who heads it just wide.

Minute 80: GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL! Robben!!! Robben scores after a well timed, well executed pass by Sebastian Schweinstieger. Bayern 7-0 up

2 minutes of added time. Final whistle.

Bayern Munich creams Basel FC 7-0, (7-1) on aggregate.

Match Highlights

Stellar performance by Mario Gomez picking up 4 goal

Excellent performance by Arjen Robben as well the start scoring off, and bank 2 for Bayer.

Thomas Muller's return to scoring to take Bayern ahead to (2-1) on aggregate.

Wonderful assisting by Franck Ribery.

Match Facts

Gomez's performance puts him 1 goal behind Leo Messi of Barcelona, for most goals scored in a Champion's League match.

By the 11th minute Bayern's dominance could be seen. They took 11 shots, 11 being on target, to Basel's 1 shot, which was off target.

This game saw Mario Gomez's 11th hat trick over the last 17 months of competition.

Arsenal takes off at the last minute at Emirates Stadium

WHAT A GAME!!!!! My goodness. What a game! For the very beginning, this game was setting up to be a showdown. Early goals from both Arsenal and New Castle would make the match even more intense. By the end of regular time it would be even more gripping for Arsenal and New castle fans, both teams pressing to break the tie. The luck would turn however in Arsenal's favour at the very last minute.... Literally. A latee goal in the 94th minute would seal a 2-1 victory for Arsenal at home.

Here's how the match went:

The drama would start from the very beginning when Demba Va of New Castle almost opened up scoring in the 1st minute. His shot would however be denied.

The high pressing of both teams would be seen in the 2nd minute when following a breakaway run from Theo Watcott, Walcott sends a excellent cross to Van Persie, that just misses him.

In the 4th minute an error in the New Castle defense would almost see scoring opening up with a shot from Robin Van Persie. He just misses.

Minute 13: GGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL! Superb shot by Ben Arfa of New Castle to open up scoring.

Minute 14: GGGGGGGGOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!! Robin Van Persie equalizes for Arsenal. WHAT A SHOT!! WHAT A GAME!!!

By the 20th minute, both teams would be searching for a second. However at that point, New Castle concedes a dangerous free kick. RVP strikes a stringing free kick right into the hands of the keeper.

In the 30th minute Demba Va would take a shot at goal. While going wide, it would also have been disallowed if scored as the offside flag was lurking behind.

The pace by minute 42 had slowed, but at this point a corner for Arsenal would be conceded. The free kick was taken and an opportunity almost materializes for arsenal, but Theo Walcott's shot it kept out by the New Castle defense.

Half time.

The pace of the game would continue strong. In minute 48, Rosicky of Arsenal takes a headed attempt at goal, but it is saved by New Castles keeper.

In minute 54, a beautiful build up by Arsenal. Van Persie makes an attempt at goal, but it is held by New Castle's keeper.

Minute 65: RVP takes an excellent shot on goal! Denied again!

The heat would turn up even hotter in minute 67, when an error by New castle defenders finds Theo Walcott with the opportunity to make a great pass to Rosicky who is in tons of space. Rosicky fails to capitalize. WHAT A MISS!!! WHAT A MISS!

In minute 79, Van Persie in search of his second, takes a shot at goal! It goes just wide.

Minute 82, another Arsenal player would miss a golden opportunity. Wowza Gervinho! WHAT A MISS!

By minute 84, both teams would be a in frenzy for the tie breaker. An opportunity would fall to Arsenal's feet, but it would be cleanly and swiftly swept away from New Castle's goal line.

In minute 86 Ramsey, subbed on, would take a shot at goal. However, it would be deflected away for a corner. Nothing from that corner.

By minute 89, both teams were searching frantically for the tie breaker. The best opportunity would come for Arsenal after a wonderful build up after an error. The shot is just tipped over New Castle's goal by the keeper.

5 minutes of stoppage time added.

In minute 90, Theo Waclcott would try to be the saviour. He takes shot which is blocked. He claims for handball. The officials rightly called a corner and not handball. Nothing amounts from the corner.

Leo Messi and Barcelona take it to Racing Santander

After the Messicre of Bayer Leverkusen mid last week in the Champion's League, when Messi netted home 5 goals and Cristian Tello, 2, to lead Barca to an aggregate 10-2 victory over the Germans, its no surprise that Barca, with Messi at the helm, would be victorious over anyone in their way, Even Racing Santander... Away. Barca's away record has been anything but perfect this season, but the boys, looking to make up, wrecked Racing away with a 2-0 result.

Here's how the match went:

The match started off fairly quick paced with the 1st attempt coming from Pedro in the 5th minute. He took a shot to start the scoring off, but his shot went just wide of the Racing goal.

By the 14th minute, Barcelona was still pressing. By this time a foul was giving to Barcelona. Messi geared up to take the kick. While being a excellently take shot, it was also equally excellently saves by Racing's keeper.

Barcelona, dominating, continued to turn up the pace and make attempts at opening the scoring. In the 22nd minute. Andre Iniesta would make an attempt, his shot sadly hitting the cross bar.

The tension would be broken in the 28th minute. GGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!! LEO MESSI!!! After a wonderful 1 and 1 with Cesc Fabregas, the little Argentine would open scoring up for the Catalan giants.

By the 44th minute, the pace of the game had begun to slow, but still, Messi, in search of his 2nd would try his foot at goal. His shot was however deflected away for a corner. Nothing from this corner materialized.

1 minute of stoppage time added.... Half time whistle.

The second half would start out equally high paced, with Racing players now defending sloppily. In the 47th minute, a dangerous foul was conceded in favour of Barcelona, but nothing materialized from the free kick.

The pace was kept high when in the 51st minute, Cesc, looking to get on the scoring chart, would find room for his shot. However, the shot was saved wonderfully by Racing's keeper.

The heat would not be off Racing even then, When in the 54th minute Issac Cuenca would try to add a goal. His shot was however, also saved by Racing's keeper.

The final nail in Racing Santander's coffin would result in the 56th minute. GGGGGGGGOOOOOAAAAAALLLL!!!! Leo Messi does it again. The Argentine capitalizes on a penalty given for a foul conceded due to Racing's frustrated defending.

No real attempts would come for a little over 10 minutes. In the 70th minute Racing would have their shot a greatness. The ball hits the back off Valdes' goal, but alas, is ruled offside, the spirits of the Racing players and fans crushed.

In the 72nd minute Pep Guardiola would make a promising change bring on Tello, last week's double goal scorer, for Issac Cuenca, who had a wonderful game.

Tello, would make his presence felt, when in the 73rd minute, he made a wonderful attempt at goal, which went just wide of Racing's goal.

The press of Barca, in light of Racing's defeated spirit would continue. In the 79th minute, Messi on search for a hattrick would make a shot, which by some luck for the Racing players, would be blocked by Bernardo.

This would be the last real opportunity of the game, exclusive of some more technical changes by Pep.

3 minutes of added time.... Final Whistle.

Barcelona wins 2-0 away at El Sandinero

Match Highlights:

Fantastic game for Racing's keeper who really prevented a slaughtering.

Lots of Smoke, Little Fire at The Bridge

Chelsea were almost held to a nil all result at Stamford Bridge in this evening's game against Stoke. The ray of Hope came in the 68th minute when Drogba defeated the keeper, skipped past him and netted home Chelsea's saving grace. The match ended 1-0 in Chelsea's favour.

Here are some match moments:

Chelsea started out pressing, amassing 3 corners in 3 minutes, however were unable to capitalize on them.

Cahill in the early rounds tried to capitalize on the gaps in Stoke's defence but a save from Begovic's, Stoke's keeper denied the young Chelsea player.

The real game changer came in the 25th minute, when Ricardo Fuller of Stoke, intentionally stomped Ivanovic of Chelsea and was shown a straight red card, leaving Stoke down a man for the remainder of the match.

In the 36th Minute, Chelsea would make what would be an essential change when they brought on Mata as replacement for Meirles.

A glimmer of Hope came right before the half time, when Drogba flicked on a shot for Mata, which was denied by the Stoke keeper.

2 minutes of added time. 0-0 at the half.

The second half started off fairly slowly with David Luiz replacing Ivanovic for Chelsea.

In the 59th minute Captain of John Terry makes an attempt at goal that went just wide.

By the 60th minute the game was looking sort of sticky, as even against 10 men, Chelsea could not find the chink in Stoke's defence to capitalize. 63th minute Chelsea had had 10 corners to Stoke's 1, yet still could not capitalize.

In the 66th minute a foul from Stoke would provoke and excellent free kick from Drogba, luckily saved by Stoke's keeper.

However, in the 68th minute, the man from the Ivory Coast would not be denied again! GGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!! Chelsea Football Club!!! Drogba, feed an excellent ball by Mata, defeats the keeper to secure a goal for the Blues, also securing his 100th Premier League goal. Drogba finds the gap to put Chelsea ahead 1-0.

Further glimmers of blue came in the 69th and 84th minutes when Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard respectively, produced excellent tackles to shut Stoke's defence down.

Further Chelsea domination was apparent in the 86th minute when Mata took a wonderful shot which was blocked by the post. The rebound which was scored wad however ruled offside. Chelsea was denied goal number 2.

Right before the match end, it was all Daniel Sturridge as he made a solo effort in search for Chelsea's second. His shot was however deflected to produce 1 more double digit corner for Chelsea. The Blues could however not capitalize.

3 minutes of stoppage time added, but nothing would result and the match ended at 1-0 in favour of Chelsea, to help them secure 3 points to put them level with Arsenal in the Barclay's League.

Match Highlights

Intentional stomp on Ivanovic in the 25th minute by Ricardo Fuller, that reduced Stoke to 10 men for the remainder of the match.

100th goal in the Premier League for Didier Drogba, 1st African Player to reach this achievement.

Winning return for Captain John Terry, who's been out injured.

2nd Straight win for Rob Di Matteo, as interim manager.
